In August 2020 the building that was originally known as the Plaza Cinema would have been 90 years old. It was located on West Gate in the centre of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire and for the majority of its life it was known as the Granada.
This website has been put together as a celebration of a building that became an entertainment hub for a community for more that 40 years.
It has now been gone longer than it existed but for many local people when you mention its name it still brings back happy memories.
My name is Ian 'Watko' Watkins, I'm Mansfield born and bred with a keen interest in local history. I have long been fascinated by stories of the Granada and for the last few years I have been collecting memories and memorabilia relating to the cinema. I have worked at Mansfield 103.2 in the town for almost 20 years and I'm passionate about the area. I wanted to create a website dedicated to the cinema to keep its memory alive.
If you have any memories or stories about the Granada and want to contribute to this mini archive please get in touch via the email or form at the bottom of this website.
Listen in to a special documentary featuring local peoples memories of the building on the commercial radio station Mansfield 103.2
A special exhibition dedicated to the Granada and other local cinemas will be taking place later this year (more details to follow)
If you have any memories or pictures you'd like to appear on this site then send an email so I can add them to the Granada Grapevine.
If you worked there or visited the cinema and would like to do an interview with me, so I can add your story to the audio archive, let me know too.
I'm also always looking to add to my Granada Mansfield collection so if you want to sell anything related to the cinema please let me know.
